How to Clear Clutter From Your Desk

If you are wondering what kind of desk you are supposed to clear clutter from, there’s actually no particular one. Office desk, home study desk, writing desk, drawing desk – all that you can think of. Whatever you may be and whatever kind of desk you may be using, one thing is for sure, clutter distracts you. If you are in the office, for example, you can’t help but procrastinate and leave your work unfinished because you get put off by clutter. Or if you are a student, you can’t review very well if your study desk is filled with unnecessary random stuffs, right?

Let’s say that you are the office worker, if you were not able to do your work then you are most likely to be fired. Or if you are the student, then you would most probably end up getting low grades at exams. Clutter can ruin your life, just not in the way that you can expect. So what you should do is to clear clutter, and you better start with your desk. Following will be easy steps that you can follow to do just this.

First, think of the cycle of you life. What things do you really use at your desk, and what are just “displays”. Now, leaving the important things, take everything off your desk. And when I say important things, these should be the ones that you know you won’t be able to work without. Otherwise, take them off your desk. This is the only way that you can be able to see your desk at its cleanest state.

Next, among the non-important things, pick what should stay and what shouldn’t. This will be a little hard, because in order for you to make your decision, you must picture an item on your desk. Your family photos, for example. Okay, they serve as an inspiration for you. But think about them on your desk, on a normal working day. How many times to do you really look at them? Do they help with your work or do they just distract you? Do the same with everything on your desk. Think about how they are helping you and how they are not helping you.

Lastly, set your desk according to the items that you picked to stay. And then see how much better everything looks now, just because you decided to clear clutter.
