You established a new habit of organization.  Are your efforts being defeated by living with clutterers?  Each time you get your home clean and organized, they come in to blow all to pieces.  It’s frustrating isn’t it?  You may have had many arguments about establishing and maintaining organization.  It become a real challenge when you and  your significant other, family members or room mates, don’t see eye to eye on your progress.   Here are three tips to  ease the tension and make progress on maintaining your systems of organization  while living with clutterers.

Method 1: Inform (disguising motivation)
Inform the clutterers of your goal to become organized and declutter.  Show them results  of  clearing clutter and organization has improved your life.  If they ask, provide them with information and tools so that they can join you in your efforts.

Note:  If they aren’t interested don’t force them to comply to your ways, or get angry…it’s a waste of energy.  Just keep doing what your doing and try the next strategy.

Method 2:  Compromise

Negotiate with clutterers in your home.  If they are absolutely resistant to change, ask them if they can meet you halfway.  Suggest a tidy time before bed, to keep your home free from clutter.  If this strategy is a no-go, then try the third alternative.

Method 3:  Create Zones for Clutterers

Discuss and make agreements to create separate spaces or zones for each person.  They can have a cluttering zone that’s their space to clutter and you have your area to keep clean and clutter free.  If you need to take it to extremes you can section off different zones with painters tape to set boundaries.  Make sure to come to a mutual  agreement about rules and boundaries up front.

If all else fails…go to group counseling to see if there is a deeper root of the problem.  These three tips inform, compromise and zones can ease the frustration of living with clutterers.
