The last post discussed how to declutter your home by turning clutter into cash, if the monetary value of your possessions consider donating them.   There are several benefits to donating your clutter.   This post will discuss three benefits for donating your unused goods, and we’ll wrap up with a list of places to declutter your home by donating.

When you declutter your home and donate your possessions you are helping someone else. Times are tough for a lot of people, with the state of economy and natural disasters happening all over the world.  There are many organizations that will take used computers, shoes, clothing and furniture to give to someone in need.  Some charities will even pick up the items for you, saving you time and a trip.   Reach out to others in need donating things that you no longer need, rather than tossing them in the trash.

Donating is environmentally friendly.   We live in a disposable society, many states are becoming “green” requiring recycling.  Why not contribute to protect Mother Earth?  There is only one.  She’s been good to us, let’s return the favor.  One last possible benefit to declutter your home by donation are tax deductions.

Check with your tax preparer and the IRS to see if your unused goods can be used a tax deduction when you donate them to charitable organizations. Here is the link to the IRS website regarding non cash charitable contributions for further reference. Non profit organizations, such as Goodwill, will provide you with a receipt for the donations of goods.   Now where to donate all the stuff?
