Letting Go of Clutter: How to Shift the Fear of Lack Mentality

If you had parents, or grandparents that lived during Great Depression, you may have learned a hoarding behavior.  The most challenging obstacle for people with this mindset is letting go of clutter.   Past generations had to pinch every penny, utilize every resource that they had.  Past traditions have taught us to hang onto spare items just in case.  This mentality no longer serves.   This post will discuss three ways for letting go of clutter through giving, selling and repairing.

Letting go of clutter is challenging when you are consistently frightened that something will happen some day.  This thought must immediately be replaced with a new empowering one.   Donate the spare items that are kept for a rainy day to charity or someone less fortunate.   This shift in your thinking, works wonders.  Before you know you’ll come to the realization that you are blessed and lead an abundant life.    If this step is too difficult to let go of your clutter, consider…

Repair and maintain what you currently have.  When times get tough, we need to stretch our dollars.  Let’s face it we go through transition stages.   Don’t buy anything new to replace what you currently have.  Repair the items that you do have and apply one of the previous steps to get rid of excessive clutter in your home.
